TwoGate Engineers to Present in 2 Sessions
From a total of 193 proposal submissions, two sessions by TwoGate's Board Director & CTO Okumoto and Engineer Murata have been accepted. They will speak on the following topics.
“Rails and Architecture for Tackling High Traffic in 'Oshi-katsu'”
[Speaker] Board Director & CTO Okumoto
At live event venues, merchandise sales (on-site sales) often have limited stock on the day, leading enthusiastic fans who are determined to get their hands on items to form long queues starting early in the morning, waiting for hours. To improve this merchandise sales experience and ensure as many fans as possible can go home with a pleasant experience, we developed the event-focused mobile ordering app "Caravan." Immediately after first-come, first-served sales begin, we see sudden spikes of nearly 400 payment requests per second. This is an enormous amount of traffic that standard system configurations cannot handle. Furthermore, service downtime or overselling limited-edition items beyond actual stock would severely impact service reliability. I will talk about how we tackle such high-traffic, critical situations with Ruby on Rails, leveraging PostgreSQL, Redis, and CDNs.
“Type on Rails: Revolutionizing Rails Application Safety and Developer Experience with Types”
[Speaker] Engineer Murata
In the Ruby community, introducing type systems has been a hot topic in recent years. However, many teams have likely not yet reached the stage of actually adopting one. In this presentation, we will share the insights gained from introducing the Sorbet type checker into multiple Rails applications—including mission-critical ones—and running them in production for over a year.
We will introduce the tools, specific steps, and points to watch out for when actually adopting Sorbet in Rails applications, with the goal of enabling attendees to introduce type systems into their own real-world applications. Additionally, we will present how to design and implement Rails applications that make better use of type systems, using practical Rails examples alongside algebraic data types and the Result type (one such algebraic type).
About TwoGate Inc.
At TwoGate, we engage in activities to support students who are early adopters of programming technology, including our long-term internship program, hosting the short-term hackathon-style internship "TwoGate Dev Camp," and sponsoring Mitou Junior.
[TwoGate's Relationship with Ruby]
TwoGate develops and operates numerous products, and all of our server-side development is done in Ruby.
In our original app Caravan for concert tours, festivals, and event venues, we provide a pre-order system for merchandise sales where users can choose their payment and pickup methods as a base, along with optional game content such as gacha and lotteries upon request. During events, numerous payments occur simultaneously, causing sudden spikes in system and server load. Ruby is at the core of handling this processing, and it has successfully managed massive concurrent connections across various events to date.
Additionally, CRAYON, which develops and operates official fan communication apps specialized for the entertainment industry, comes equipped with a wide variety of features. Used by artists such as Creepy Nuts and creators like Kajisac, CRAYON's server side is also developed in Ruby.
